Thanks for the comment. WDFW doesn't have creel monitoring in place that provides unbiased estimates of total sport mortality for any rivers on the coast. Therefore, there is a lot of uncertainty around impacts from sport fisheries. This limitation makes designing steelhead fisheries in the face of conservation concerns challenging. We've highlighted this in the blog post and have requested additional funding from the Legislature in 2022 to support this going forward.
